Job description

Are you an experienced and passionate MFL Teacher looking to take on a leadership role within a dynamic and supportive department? We are seeking a dedicated Deputy Head of MFL to assist in leading and shaping the future of modern foreign languages education at a vibrant school. This role begins September 2025.

Duties of Deputy Head of MFL

 

  • Assist the Head of MFL in leading and managing the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning
  • Support the development and delivery of an engaging, inclusive, and challenging MFL curriculum
  • Lead and motivate a team of MFL teachers, providing guidance, support, and professional development
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of MFL teachers and students, implementing strategies for improvement where necessary
  • Promote and organise extracurricular language activities, such as language clubs, trips, and cultural events
  • Support the Head of Department with curriculum planning, assessment, and the use of innovative teaching methods
  • Work closely with senior leadership to set departmental goals and contribute to the school’s strategic development
  • Assist with the management of the department’s budget, resources, and staffing

Ideal Deputy Head of MFL:

 

  • A degree in Modern Languages or a related subject
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching MFL at secondary level, with a track record of leadership or departmental support
  • Expertise in teaching [languages offered at the school, e.g., French, Spanish, German]
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
  • Passionate about languages, with a commitment to promoting cultural awareness and diversity
  • The ability to inspire students and colleagues to achieve excellence in language learning
