Job description
We are looking for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team at a prestigious school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide targeted support for students who may experience behavioural challenges, anxiety, trauma, or social difficulties. This role begins March 2025.
Duties as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Build trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and supported.
- Assist in delivering tailored interventions to promote emotional well-being and positive behaviour.
- Support teachers in adapting lessons and classroom activities to meet individual needs.
- Help students develop self-regulation, resilience, and coping strategies.
- Work closely with parents/carers, teachers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support.
- Maintain records of student progress and contribute to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) if applicable.
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (in a school or care setting).
- A relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) – desirable but not essential.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
- A passion for helping students overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
