Reception Teaching Assistant (Mornings Only)

Location: Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Start Date: November 2023

Hours: 5 Mornings per week, Term-Time Only

Position Overview:

Are you passionate about supporting young children in their early years of education? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Great Yarmouth. This role focuses on providing essential support to a Reception class, with a particular focus on a pupil with autism and diabetes. Your mornings will be spent helping create a nurturing and supportive environment, while also assisting with some specialised care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to a Reception class, working closely with teachers and school staff.
  • Assist an autistic pupil with Type 1 diabetes, including:
    • Monitoring blood glucose levels.
    • Calculating carbohydrate intake for the morning snack.
    • Administering insulin injections with an observer (second staff member present).
  • Collaborate with staff to maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Support with classroom activities and promote social, emotional, and educational development.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar child-support role is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of diabetes management (training will be provided, though previous experience is beneficial).
  • Basic understanding of autism and experience in supporting young children with SEN.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, with strong communication skills.
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine interest in the welfare and development of young children.
