Job description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join inclusive and supportive team at schools around Plymouth. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by providing tailored support, encouragement, and care.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support students with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SLD, PMLD, and SEMH (adjust as necessary). This role begins March 2025.
Duties of a SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEN.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and adapting learning materials.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support students with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) to achieve their targets.
- Promote positive behaviour, social development, and emotional well-being.
- Use assistive technologies and alternative communication methods where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure the best support for students.
Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children with SEN (in a school or care setting).
- A relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) – desirable but not essential.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
- A passion for helping children reach their full potential.
