Job description

Step Teachers are currently working with an Alternate Provision School in Hertford who are looking for an experienced Science Teacher for a part time role starting in January 2025. The Science Teacher role will involve teaching KS3 pupils; they classes are very small and are supported by a TA. The school are looking for a Science Teacher 3 days per week, Monday to Wednesday; this role is not suitable for ECT's.

The mission of this school is to provide continued education for students who are facing challenges in mainstream education. The school specifically cater for those who need support with their social emotional or mental health and uses the interest of the individual to support their learning.

Science Teacher Role:

  • Good knowledge of the Science curriculum; including Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • Able to plan and deliver engaging and comprehensive lessons
  • Maintain a well organised classroom and ensure the safe use and storage of all equipment
  • Work effectively with other members of staff, both within the department and throughout the school
  • Ability to assess students, monitor their progress, and provide constructive feedback
  • Be able to offer support and guidance to every pupil
  • Compliance with the schools’ policies and the reliable implementation of these

Science Teacher Requirement:

  • Hold QTS or an equivalent qualification
  • Have recent mainstream school-based experience as a Science Teacher in a Secondary School
  • Have a good level of classroom and behaviour management
  • A relevant Science related degree is desirable
  • SEND and/or SEMH experience is desirable
