Step Teachers are working with a Secondary school in Hackney who are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to support the educational, social, and emotional development of students with SEMH needs, ensuring they can achieve their full potential. As a SEMH TA you will play a crucial role in helping students overcome barriers to learning. This is a full-time position requiring a long-term commitment. 

SEMH TA - Role:

• Assisting students individually or in small groups with their educational activities.
• Implementing and adapt educational programs to meet the needs of students with SEMH.
• Supporting teachers in planning and delivering lessons that cater to SEMH needs.
• Assisting teacher to manage student's classroom behaviour to ensure a positive learning environment.
• Implementing individualised behaviour support plans.
• Build positive relationships with students to understand their needs and challenges.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement to help students build self-esteem and resilience.
• Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff.
• Liaise with external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, social services) to support students' SEMH needs.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

SEMH TA -Requirements:

• Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning).
• Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
• Understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students.
• Additional training or qualifications in SEMH (e.g., courses in mental health first aid, behaviour management).
• Experience in using specific interventions and programs (e.g., THRIVE, Boxall Profile).
