Job description

Step Teachers are working with a lovely all-girls school in Tower Hamlets to find a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) to join them ASAP. This role is temporary working 4 days a week Tues to Fri up until Easter. It’s an exciting opportunity to play a key part in ensuring the safety and well-being of the school’s students while supporting a nurturing and empowering school community.

As Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in implementing and maintaining the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Acting as a point of contact for safeguarding concerns, offering guidance and support to staff, students, and parents.
  • Responding promptly to safeguarding issues, ensuring concerns are recorded and acted upon appropriately.
  • Liaising with external agencies, including social services and the local safeguarding board, to ensure effective multi-agency collaboration.
  • Supporting staff training and raising awareness of safeguarding best practices across the school.
  • Monitoring and reviewing safeguarding systems to ensure they remain effective and compliant with statutory guidance.

Requirements-Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead:

We are looking for a committed professional with:

  • Relevant safeguarding training and qualifications, with a thorough understanding of statutory safeguarding requirements (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education).
  • Experience working in a pastoral or safeguarding role, ideally in a school setting.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional when managing sensitive or challenging situations.
  • A strong commitment to promoting the safety and well-being of students.
