Job description

Step Teachers are seeking an experienced Design Technology Teacher located in Lowestoft commencing in April 2025. This full-time position is for 2 months initially, with potential extension based on performance and school discretion.

Your duties as a Design Technology Teacher:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons in Design Technology, ensuring a broad range of practical and theoretical content.
  • Teach students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, focusing on product design, resistant materials, and other design-related disciplines.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special educational needs and those working at higher levels.
  • Develop and maintain a safe and engaging classroom environment that encourages creativity and practical learning.
  • Support students in developing skills in designing, prototyping, and evaluating their work.
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Design and Technology department and across the school to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities, such as design clubs, school projects, or competitions.

To be considered for this Design Technology Teacher position, you will:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a degree in Design Technology or a related field.
  • Experience teaching Design Technology at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (experience with Key Stage 5 is desirable, but not essential).
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in product design, resistant materials, CAD/CAM, and potentially engineering or electronics.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students through creative and innovative teaching methods.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and support students of all abilities.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills as a Design Technology Teacher.
  • A passion for design, technology, and helping students develop valuable, transferable skills.
