Job description

Are you a passionate and creative leader ready to inspire the next generation of artists and photographers?

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Art and Photography to lead a vibrant and ambitious department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher with a clear vision for arts education and the drive to lead a high-performing team. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as Head of Art and Photography:

 

  • Lead the strategic development of Art and Photography across all key stages.

  • Line-manage and support departmental staff, including appraisal and CPD.

  • Develop, review and implement a rich and engaging curriculum.

  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning through lesson observation, feedback, and mentoring.

  • Track student progress and use data to inform planning and intervention.

  • Organise and promote exhibitions, displays, and showcases of student work within school and the wider community.

  • Manage departmental budget and ensure resources are effectively deployed.

  • Promote a culture of creativity, confidence, and risk-taking in the classroom.

  • Lead extracurricular opportunities, trips, and clubs to extend learning beyond the classroom.

  • Contribute to whole-school development as part of the extended leadership team.

Ideal Head of Art and Photgraphy:

 

  • A highly skilled teacher of Art and/or Photography with a track record of strong student outcomes.

  • Inspirational leadership with the ability to motivate staff and students alike.

  • Experience in curriculum development across KS3–KS5.

  • A commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and high standards as Head of Art and Photgraphy.

  • A desire to enrich the wider school community through exhibitions, partnerships, and enrichment opportunities.
