Job description

Are you interested in making a positive difference in the lives of children with complex needs by being a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant? Have you previously provided additional support to students as a SEN Teaching Assistant in an educational setting? If so, we have an amazing opportunity for you! Step Teachers are working with a Primary school in Havering and are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant with extensive experience in supporting students with ADHD, challenging behaviour, autism, Asperger's, and dyslexia to join a school that promotes high aspirations and contributes to student development. Please be aware that this is a long-term ongoing role scheduled to start in December 2024.

Key Responsibilities of a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with SEN, assisting with their educational and personal development.
  • The SEN Teaching Assistant should assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons tailored to the individual needs of students.
  • Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals to implement tailored support plans for students with SEN.
  • The SEN Teaching Assistant should maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, contributing to comprehensive assessments and reports.

Requirements of a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previously working as a Teaching Assistant with SEN experience in a mainstream school.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to thrive in different educational settings.
  • Driver's licence is preferred but not required.
